Economy and Tourism
The town extends at the foot of the imposing castle fortress, the only Greek acropolis, and along the inlets, to the north and south, of Marina Corta and Marina Lunga.
In these two districts are located the landings for hydrofoils and ships.
The island's economy is mainly based on tourism and fishing.
It is logistically at the center of the archipelago and for those who do not know the islands, it is the easiest one from which to move around and take single-day excursions.
It is the best-equipped island in terms of services and the one best prepared for tourism.
The closest port to the island is Milazzo, from which it can be easily reached in about an hour by hydrofoils and fast ferries.
